Looking for a Baking Specialty? Consider Cupcakes!
Can't say exactly when it happened, but cupcakes have made a really big comeback. The "Once Upon a Time" primarily, children's dessert is now a favorite of all ages and for all occasions.
Many businesses are cashing in on this relatively simple-to-make, easy-to-frost and decorate dessert. If not as a specialty business, they're adding cupcakes to their current product line.
Just how versatile can a cupcake be? Well, you can use almost any cake batter that's appropriate for a larger cake. Sizewise there's everything from a mini to a king size that's so large it's baked in two parts (Super Duper Cupcake Pan). There are hundreds of ways to decorate. There is a complete wardrobe of accessories to give each cupcake a well-dressed polished presentation. Items like: cupcake baking liners, cupcake wrappers, cupcake sleeves (in many colors and designs), bakery boxes (in white and pink) and special inserts for the bakery boxes all help to give your products and business a professional look. You're limited only to your imagination and creativity.
How much can you charge for cupcakes? Prices range from $1.50 - $4.00 per cupcake and possibly more. Your prices should be based on: the amount of ingredients and decorations/garnishes used, the types of ingredients used (higher quality equals higher price), start-to-finish production time (some cake batters and decorations are more involved and elaborate than others), special packaging and the size of the cupcake.
Who's interested in buying cupcakes and for what reasons? Cupcakes are in demand for both business and personal. There's a cupcake market for: theme parties and events, holidays, special occasions, weddings, Sunday dinner, just because and treat yourself. For the healthier lifestyle, there are vegan cupcakes. Hard to think of any occasion or need that's not covered.
Specialty bakeries like CamiCakes in Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta,GA, Sweet Carolina Cupcakes in Hilton Head, SC, George Town Cupcakes in Washington, DC, Molly's Cupcakes in Chicago, Il The Atlanta Cupcake Factory in Atlanta, GA and Gigi's Cupcakes in Nashville, TN (with locations in 8 other states) are just a few of the many cupcake specialists around the country. Got a minute? Checkout the online comments from their customers. Definitely food for thought if you're planning to offer cupcakes in your product line. It's great when you can learn from someone else's success or mistakes, whichever the case might be.
Still looking for indications that the cupcake business is hot? The Food Network Channel has a tv show, "CupCake Wars", that's all about cupcakes. Want more? There's also a website dedicated to chatting about cupcakes, CupcakeBlog.com.
If the baking and selling of these sweet little desserts interest you, I suggest you get in while it's HOT. Just choose your most popular cake flavors and frostings. Create a few kicked-up designs. Choose the proper packaging, so that your cupcakes are not squashed or smashed when the bakery box is closed. Do a little research to find out what the going prices are in your area. Decide price(s) best for you. Create a good marketing strategy. Make sure you have the proper license and permits to operate a baking business. And you're ready to bake and sell cupcakes. Tip: Don't forget quality. Quality is always KEY in the food business.
Happy Cupcake Baking!!!

Nashville From The Collection of Carl and Otto Giers, Volume II (TN) (Images of America) $21.99 ">Like many Southern cities, Nashville has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past two centuries, evolving from a simple>>pioneering crossroads into a large cosmopolitan center with its citizens representing every nationality, race, and creed. The latter years of the nineteenth century proved especially momentous in the city's growth and development, and two visionary Nashvillians, Carl and Otto Giers, documented the many different elements of city life through their photographic talent.>>In Nashville: From the Collection of Carl and Otto Giers Volume II, readers will journey to the Nashville of old and see the city through the artistry of the Giers' studio: a time when the city hosted some of the most recognizable and celebrated Confederate and Union officers, such as Nathan Bedford Forrest and Ulysses S. Grant, who both sat for studio portraits. Enduring the ravages of the Civil War, Nashville rebuilt itself and the Giers were there to record its rebirth, photographing everyday life against many different settings: from the city's graveyards, such as Calvary, Mount Olivet, and National Cemetery, to its poverty-stricken neighborhoods, to the elegant homes of the affluent, to the flourishing business district. Not just concerned with the routine, the Giers focused on capturing Nashville's history in the making, including portraits of state governors, such as William Gannaway Brownlow, Albert Smith Marks, and Robert Love Taylor, scenes of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition and the Tennessee Industrial Exposition, and the city's most-famous attractions, Belmont and the Hermitage.> >>Product Details>>Page Count: 128 pages>Product Dimensions: 9.3 x 6.6 x 0.4 inches>Release Date: 10/14/2000>" |

Nashville's Sylvan Park (Images of America) $21.99 ">Located roughly 4 miles west of downtown Nashville and bordered by Charlotte Pike, Richland Creek, and the railroad lines, the area now known as Sylvan Park has a fascinating history. The pioneer "Father of Nashville," Gen. James Robertson named it "Rich Land" and claimed it for his homestead. Natural springs, rich soil, and abundant game made it valuable to early Native Americans, pioneers, and plantation owners. The 1887 grand opening of the area as a residential development included the firing of cannon and a brass band. Envisioned as an independent satellite city of Nashville, the area became home to businesses, schools, grocery stores, and churches. Businesses that started here included one of the most famous makers of jeans and one of the most famous makers of doughnuts. The deadliest train accident in American history happened here in 1918, a catastrophic head-on collision between ponderous iron behemoths at a combined speed of 110 miles per hour. Images of America: Nashville's Sylvan Park includes more than a dozen previously unpublished pictures of the aftermath.> >>Product Details>>Page Count: 128 pages>Product Dimensions: 9 x 6.4 x 0.4 inches >Release Date:>" |

Nashville Music before Country (Images of America: Tennessee) $19.99 ">Nashville is a name synonymous with music. Years before the first radio broadcast of country music from Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, music and publishing were central to Nashville's self-identity.>>Thousands of songs flooded into the Cumberland and Tennessee River valleys from Southern Appalachia, sung by folk performers. These songs became the foundation for the folk-hymn traditions that grew throughout Tennessee. Into this stream flowed a body of African American spirituals, gospel, and minstrel songs. The arrival of trained German musicians brought classical styles to this gathering stream of>>musical confluences. These musicians found a home in the academies and businesses of Nashville. Nashville Music before Country is the story of how music merged with education, publication, entertainment, and distribution to set the stage for a unique musical metropolis. The images for Nashville Music before Country come from private collections as well as public libraries and archives.> >>Product Details>>Page Count: 128 pages>Product Dimensions: 9.1 x 6.5 x 0.5 inches>Release Date: 05/12/2008>" |

Fountain City (TN) (Images of America) $19.99 ">Named for its ebullient natural springs, Fountain City, Tennessee, has a rich history and a truly unique identity. Originally established in 1788 by John Adair as Adair’s Fort, this area was a depot for the Cumberland Guard, which protected emigrant families traveling to settlements in present-day Nashville. With a population of about 30,000, Fountain City was thought to be the nation’s largest unincorporated city by the mid-20th century. Though this distinction was lost when the community was incorporated into Knoxville in 1962, Fountain City has maintained a separate identity and preserved its extensive history.
